GHRG GI 1st Annual Scientific meeting - Nairobi, Kenya

The first GHRG GI Annual Scientific meeting was held in Nairobi, Kenya in November 2023.

The conference which brought together research partners from participating countries, including Kenya, Malawi, and Ethiopia, along with collaborators from the United Kingdom, marked the first year of the research project that focused on facilitating the introduction and evaluation of vaccines for enteric diseases in children in Eastern and Southern sub-Saharan Africa. The conference witnessed deliberations and discussions on the progress of the first year of research within the consortium, which aims to apply world-leading, multidisciplinary research on gastrointestinal infections and vaccines. The overarching goal is to build capacity and enhance health outcomes related to childhood diarrhea in Kenya.

The three-year consortium revolves around three main sub-themes: Estimating the burden of vaccine-preventable diarrheal diseases, predicting the clinical impact and cost-effectiveness of vaccination, and collaborating with policymakers to inform vaccine introduction and
evaluation.
