Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI)

Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI).

Our CEI strategy will ensure delivery of a locally relevant, culturally appropriate programme of work. Our strategy has been informed by workshops with community leaders and informed research design. The members of the CEI Focus groups in each partner country will be trained appropriately and their feedback/ recommendations on all aspects of the study including study design, implementation and dissemination will be appropriately taken onboard.

CEI promotes collaboration, shared decision making and shared ownership among research stakeholders. CEI is informed by the principle that "people affected by research should have a say in how research is undertaken". We will work towards co-production as an approach to community involvement, embedding the key principles and features of co-production as set out in the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Guidance for co-producing a research project. We will follow UK standards for public involvement listed below:

Standards for public involvement

  • Inclusive opportunities offer community involvement opportunities that are accessible and that reach people and groups according to research needs.
  • Working together- work together in a way that values all contributions, and that builds and sustains mutually respectful and productive relationships.
  • Support and learning -offer and promote support and learning opportunities that build confidence and skills for public involvement in research.
  • Governance- involve the public in research management, regulation, leadership and decision making.
  • Communications-use plain language for well-timed and relevant communications, as part of involvement plans and activities.
  • Impact-seek improvement by identifying and sharing the difference that public involvement makes to research.
